Created for Visa Wellington On a Plate's "Word of Mouth" theme, The Conversation Starter brings together wild goat, goat cheese, roasted capsicum, Kawakawa coleslaw, The Bond Store botanical aioli, and Apostle Hot Sauce herb salt, all served in a handcrafted Seriously Pickled cheese scone bun.
Why goat?
Because it's not something you see every day.
Goat is one of the world's most popular meats, yet it remains uncommon in New Zealand. We chose it deliberately to challenge expectations, encourage curiosity, and get people talking around the table.
This burger is a collaboration between The Bond Store, Paraparaumu Beach Bowling Club, and Seriously Pickled—three Paraparaumu Beach institutions that have grown through local recommendation, community connections, and good old-fashioned word of mouth.

Enjoy your burger in the relaxed surroundings of a classic bowls club, complete with cold drinks from the bar and plenty of retro Kāpiti Coast charm.
Price
$25 per burger
The bar will be open throughout service, offering local beer, wine, spirits, cocktails, and non-alcoholic options.
The beautiful grass bowling greens will also be open, with friendly club members on hand to offer coaching for anyone new to bowls. Access to the greens is included, so why not enjoy a cold beer and a social game of outdoor bowls after your burger?
How to Book
Bookings are essential and numbers are limited.
Simply select your preferred date using the booking calendar below and complete payment to secure your booking.
When booking, you'll notice there is only one arrival time available for each session. This simply helps us manage numbers. You're welcome to arrive at any time during the service window shown below.

Book for 12:00 pm and arrive any time between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
Friday Evening

Book for 4:00 pm and arrive any time between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

Things to Know
- Bookings are limited and pre-payment is required.
- Casual bowling is included, and bowls are available for you to use.
- If you are bowling, you must wear flat-soled shoes or be barefoot on our beautiful grass greens.
- If the greens are closed due to weather, we'll have indoor bowls available instead.
- No refunds are available after booking, as we need to source ingredients and prepare in advance.
- If you are not a member of the club or an affiliated club, you'll simply need to sign in on arrival. It's quick and easy, and our team will be there to help.
